What is CEPS Academy?

A CEPS branch dedicated to teaching and training, where we share our in-house expertise through:

  • A core curriculum designed to give all attendees a solid foundational understanding of the EU policy landscape
  • One-off deep-dive classes into new or particularly complex policy areas

What does it involve?

CEPS Academy offers a flexible learning journey with two main components:

The EU Institutions and Governance

Understanding the EU requires both a grasp of its historical foundations and an appreciation of its evolving governance structures and decision-making processes. This module provides a comprehensive introduction to the EU's origins, institutions, decision-making and economic governance.

Objectives

  • Trace the historical evolution of the EU
  • Identify and describe the EU's institutional architecture
  • Understand EU decision-making processes
  • Understand EU economic governance
  • Critically assess current and future challenges

EU Policymaking ‘Under the Hood’

A quick but targeted introduction to the world of better regulation with an emphasis on the EU, including international comparisons. From the early days of impact assessments to the current wave of simplification and digitalisation, this course guides participants towards critically appraising how economic and data science tools are applied in the design and implementation of existing rules and standards.

Objectives

  • Understand the EU legislative process
  • Understand the policy cycle, from agenda-setting to implementation and management of regulatory stock

The EU in the World

This course presents the EU's role in the world, exploring both its ambitions and its limits as a global power. By analysing its institutional framework, policy instruments and engagement with external partners, it provides a comprehensive understanding of the EU's global role and presence.

Objectives

  • Understand the institutional and policy foundations of EU external action
  • Analyse key domains: trade, neighbourhood and enlargement, security and defence
  • Critically assess the EU's effectiveness as a global actor
  • Connect theoretical perspectives with real-world policy developments

Economic Policies

A deep dive into the key economic policy areas shaping the European Union today, covering market regulation, energy transition, digital transformation, and fiscal coordination.

  • Digital and telecommunications policies
  • Labour markets
  • Economic governance and coordination of fiscal policies

How to Participate

Participants can tailor their experience by choosing:
